When Should I Get My Flu Shot?

I cannot believe that summer is over and we’ve got to start wearing shoes and socks, much less sweaters. Also, the Flu shot signs are cropping up everywhere and it seems too soon.
It’s not, according to the CDC, Flu season runs from October to May, peaking in December, January and February.
So when is the best time to get your shot? Generally, as soon as the vaccine becomes available, preferably by October as it can take two weeks for your body to build up antibodies and adequately protect you from the flu.
The CDC recommends that everyone older than 6 months of age, get a flu vaccine every year. There are many exceptions however, so you should speak with your doctor before getting your flu shot.
As always, you should take everyday preventive actions like staying away from sick people and washing your hands to reduce the spread of germs. If you are sick with flu, stay home from work or school to prevent spreading flu to others.
